Hey guys, why were thousands of Shiva Lingams and other ancient Indian idols destroyed? I am going to show you why today, using this as an example. As you can see this is just a small shrine, originally it is said to have a Shiva linga in the center. But take a look at what is here today. What is Underneath? You may have expected a small pit where the lingam was removed, but look, a deep, secret underground chamber had been built.
This will easily be atleast 6 feet deep, too bad people are using this as a trash can now, but the opening is only about 2 feet wide, but inside, you can see that the chamber is much bigger. They would have fit a lingam on top of this, and it would have looked like a nice little temple.
So, the question is, what was kept in the secret underground chamber? Gold, Silver and precious gems like diamonds and ruby. How do we know this? This is still the standard procedure today, while constructing Hindu temples and placing the main idol. Even today, while they build Hindu Temples, they bury precious metals and stones. In fact, even when we build a house, we have to bury them as a part of the ritual, this ritual is called Bhoomi Pooja. But since we cannot afford to bury gold and diamonds today, they sell symbolic fake ones in all jewellery shops. This is just 100 rupees, 1 or 2 dollars, and Hindus buy this and bury this before starting their house construction. But in ancient temples, they were burying original Gold and Diamonds, and not just a little bit, an enormous amount of them. This is why time and time again; we find underground treasures hidden in ancient Hindu temples.
