The Chicago Public School district is facing backlash for delaying the start of its school year, then encouraging students to go to the Democrat National Convention - a move many are saying is politically motivated.
The academic year was set to start last Monday, but the district pushed it out a week so the city could get ready to host the DNC.
The district said that it was the size of the Convention that caused them to delay the start of school, however, it also mentioned that the delay would also quote allow "time for students to attend, volunteer, and participate in the civic process of hosting the Convention."
Which sparked harsh criticism from several lawmakers who say politicians are prioritizing politics over education.
A spokesman for the Public Labor Unions Accountability Committee said this was a "clear example of what happens when Public Sector Unions gain too much power."
