McMullen Cove HAMR TRL Race #3

This is the third race in the HAMR race series. I placed 2nd in my age category 19-39 and 4th overall not including e-bikes. I had it pinned pretty much the whole race. My average heart rate was 183 bpm and my max was 191 bpm. There were a few spots (on the downhills) that I was able to bring it down and take a break (173 bpm). My normalized power was 247 watts with a max of 1218 watts.

There are a lot of rocks and technical section on the first part of the course. There are also some off-camber parts where you have to avoid rocks or weave your way through them. These trails probably take a few rides to find the perfect lines to find the fast way.

These trails are about half way up the hill (technically not a mountain), so to get to the start there is a steep climb up with one section have a 24% grade. Warming up for the race is a bit tricky, but also riding these trails is a beast just to get to.

I am riding a specialized epic 29er XC bike. It does the job pretty well for this course. There really wasn't much climbing and the back section of the course is flow and fast. I am using 2.4 Specialized ground control tires. They provide plenty of grip in the turns and grip on the rocks.
