Snowfall reached 30 inches (76 cm) in less than 12 hours, yet comfort and warmth were found in a dugout shelter (snow cave) beneath 10 feet (3 meters) of snow. A massive snow cave, the size of a small cabin, was carved from the snow in the Alaskan Mountains. Though solo camping was comfortable, the return home proved challenging. The car was buried, requiring 3 hours of digging to gain freedom, with much-needed help from strangers.
