“Israel bombs Lebanon, and Hezbollah responds to the killing of a commander.”

Israel launched a wave of air strikes on southern Lebanon early Sunday morning in what it said was a pre-emptive strike on Hezbollah, with the militant group saying it fired hundreds of missiles and drones.
The intense exchange of fire has threatened to ignite an all-out war that could draw in the United States, Iran and armed groups across the region. This could also undermine efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, where Israel is waging a war with the Palestinian Hamas movement, an ally of Hezbollah.

By mid-morning, the exchange of fire appeared to have ended, with both sides saying they had limited their attacks to military targets. But the situation remained tense, and the extent of losses and damage was not immediately known. At least three people were killed in the strikes on Lebanon.
