I have already tried two other Hydrogen water bottles from ALTHY and was impressed by the build quality, presentation and performance. I got the chance to try out this new model, currently priced at around £80, which is very different to the other two, to see how it shapes up. Most hydrogen water generator bottles only produce a fairly small amount of water but this one can generate up to a full litre, the largest on the market, and is clearly designed for use on the go.

In the rather impressive and upmarket box, you receive the unit itself, a USB-C charging cable, carry strap, an external bottle adapter, and a user guide. No inhalation tube is included. Build quality all seems first rate with the base and top of the unit made from food grade BPAfree plastic material which Althy call Tritan. Take note that the bottle comes with a protective screw top for the membrane unit which should be removed before use and replaced along with a small amount of water to keep the membrane moist when not used for any length of time.

This unit uses the latest generation of SPE & PEM dual-chamber hydrogen and oxygen separation electrolysis technology to produce and retain 99.99% pure hydrogen while isolating the harmful gases of ozone and residual chlorine produced, and venting them through the base of the unit. The bottle features a built-in plastic straw with no need to open the lid or decant the water to another container meaning that the decay rate of hydrogen will be slower and the storage time will be longer.

According to the Althy website, almost any type of clean water can be used including tap water, but I only use boiled tap water or bottled water with it.

This device generates hydrogen that can be ingested in three ways. The internal bottle can be used to add hydrogen to water which can then be decanted and drank. An external spring water bottle can be attached to the base of the unit using the supplied adaptor and the hydrogen added to it. Using the the built-in straw the water can be consumed directly from the bottle itself. I would suppose that with your own external inhalation tube, the H2 gas could be consumed that way as the outlet nozzle seems the same as on the Althy Classic1 which does come with an inhalation tube.

The unit features a large capacity 4000 mAh battery design, enough for 30 10 minute cycles, so hopefully there should be no charging anxiety when on the go. The unit is charged through the USB-C port on the base with the red charging LED changing to green when the process is complete. The bottle features a narrow base suitable for most car cup holders to facilitate charging the device when on the move. Be sure to use a 1A or 2A USB power source to charge the unit but do not use high power fast chargers.

To use the unit with the internal bottle, fill the bottle up to about 90% or less – space needs to be left to allow space for the gas – and press the button on the underside of the unit. Press the button once: to enter 10-minute mode (a blue light shows) and it produces 800 - 1200 ppb (parts per billion) of hydrogen. Press the button twice: for 20-minute mode (blue light shows) to generate 1200 - 2000 ppb. For maximum H2 concentration, the 20 minute mode can be used up to three times in succession but remember to open the top briefly between operations to release air pressure.

I have only used it once with an external bottle and this screwed directly to the base of the unit with no adapter needed but an adapter is supplied for use with other bottle types but not all of them may work.

So what are the benefits of Hydrogen Water?
All sorts of benefits and health giving properties are claimed including:

Acting as a powerful antioxidant, helping to neutralize harmful free radicals in the body.
Anti-inflammatory effects, potentially reducing the risk of inflammatory conditions.
Enhance athletic performance by reducing muscle fatigue and improving recovery time.
Potentially mitigate the risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Improvements in skin texture, tone, and elasticity after regularly consuming hydrogen water.
Promote digestive health by reducing oxidative stress in the gastrointestinal tract.
Drinking hydrogen-enriched water may improve hydration at a cellular level.

Most of these claims are based on findings from small scale or non-validated research and may or may not prove to be worthwhile.

I have been drinking four glasses daily for the last few weeks and have not noticed any great health benefits although I do seem to be sleeping longer and more soundly. I will keep on with it as, if nothing else, the routine of using it does keep me better hydrated.

This bottle is best used for those on the go or requiring a high capacity container with the robust build quality and supplied carry strap being perfect for campers or anyone on the move.

Due to the container size, the operating cycle times are longer than with the smaller Althy bottles and a less concentrated Hydrogen output is produced. If you do not need a larger bottle then I would advise selecting another model, I can vouch for the Althy Classic1 or the very powerful H2-005. That said, if you need a larger bottle or you need your hydrogen water on the go, then there is no other choice than this and you are sure to be happy with it.
