The Eau Claire Police Department is going on the offensive, releasing a nearly two-hour video after a small clip has been shared on social media - claiming police brutality.
A two-minute video was first shared on the Facebook page called 'Justice and Healing for Makayla' earlier this month. It shows the arrest of a woman, MaKayla Patterson. The original post says the encounter with police left her bruised and traumatized.
In a release Friday, Eau Claire police say Patterson was threatening them. They released a nearly two-hour video showing the arrest and what led up to it, from multiple cameras. They also shared a shorter video to their Facebook page to give context to the arrest.
The incident happened in the early morning hours of July 27 at She-nannigans and Lucky's Bar on Water St. Police were called there by staff after they had taken an ID away from a woman they thought was underage. They told police she was refusing to leave and had threatened to "shoot them."
Police escorted the woman and her friend out. The incident with police played out on the sidewalk outside of the bar.
In the video, you can hear police asking for the woman's name, which she wouldn't give. During the confrontation, you can hear the women making threats to the officers, which the officers warn them about.
Just prior to the arrest, one of the women is heard saying "This n***a smiling and s*** like I won't smack the s*** out of him". At that point, the officer tells her she is going to be arrested for threatening an officer. She yells at them not to touch her and backs away before officers bring her to the ground and handcuff her.
Both of the women in the video were charged after the incident. MaKayla Patterson, 22, who was the woman arrested in the video, was charged with felony threatening a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer. Keyana Robinson, 19, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting an officer. Robinson was also cited for being an underage person in a bar. They're both due in court in early September for hearings.
