Hollywood’s CIA-Mossad Network & James Jesus Angleton | Oliver Stone’s “Talk Radio”

James Jesus Angleton ran CIA’s counterintelligence network for most of its early years until the 70s. He is pretty much the father of modern counterintelligence…but he was a surrogate for “The Family”…we’ll get into that. Point is, how did America become enmeshed with the political issues and protection of Israel? It all began with James Jesus Angleton who not only helped form the CIA’s partnership with Israel’s Mossad (their MI6 or CIA) but was critical in helping them expand their Nuclear Arsenal…you heard that right. If it wasn’t for James Jesus Angleton…we probably wouldn’t be in the mess we are in today. The CIA established the unbreakable connection between Israel & the USA based on deception and lies…this has ‘zero’ to do with religion or religious beliefs. This was about establishing a rock solid CIA proxy presence in the Middle East.

Tonight I’m going to do an analysis of Oliver Stone’s Talk Radio (1988). This film is a brilliantly written story of a radio talk show host in Dallas (KGAB of all things) who relishes in shocking and pissing off everyone. I was very shaken by this film, even in the 80s. The thing about this film that really stands out is the vitriolic dialogue between the main character Barry Champlain & his Dallas, Texas based audience. Eric Bogosian wrote the story based on Alan Berg, an actual talk show host who was murdered by the Neo-Nazi Group “The Order” in Denver, Colorado. Bogosian plays the Champlain “loosely based” on Alan Berg’s story and personality.

That being said, the rest of this film serves as a useful starting point to discuss the talking points of Neo-Nazism & Zionism in a more open way. I personally was pretty clueless to what Zionism was most of my life. I would hear it mentioned in films like Talk Radio or Jewish-themed plots but never delved deeply into what Zionism is & why many Jews are opposed to Zionism but are frequently enmeshed in the politics of Zionists despite being opposed to their agenda.

This film helped me understand that Zionism has muddied the waters on how non-Jews & Jews perceive one another overall. The central character in Talk Radio, Barry, frequently fields calls from White Nationalists & KKK members who are offended what seems to be Pro-Israel positions he takes. This made me really think about how confused the American population is about nature of Zionism & Nazism, two themes frequently mentioned in this film. People who call in, often use books or talking points that are lies or outright falsehoods mixed with truths…Barry, in turn, defends his position by lying about his trips to concentration camps and mixing his truth with lies in equal measure. I was really impressed at the performance and writing of Eric Bogosian and feel like this is an important film that we should discuss and analyze openly. We can use it to discuss the various talking points used by both Barry and the people who call in to argue with Barry.

As a person who is not Jewish or a Zionist, I wanted to discuss Stone’s working openly with the knowledge of how the CIA has influenced the relationship between America & Israel. Today, we see Israel through a Pro-CIA & Pro-Zionist lens…and who gave us that lens to look through?

Talk Radio is also a brilliant character study and I think it’s one of Oliver Stone’s most underrated films. But really, it’s a showcase of Eric Bogosian’s unique talent for this type of performance. He hits on many interesting topics we should be discussing more honestly right now.
