Bicyclist Struck by Minivan, GOODRICH, August 24, 2024 - At approximately 1:20 pm on August 24, 2024, a Maroon 2022 Toyota Sienna, driven by Khanh Wguyen, 54, of Houston, was north-bound on US-59. Wguyen was traveling in the left lane in the 7118 block of 59 when a man on a bicycle that was also traveling north-bound on the shoulder pulled in front of him (it looks like he was trying to get to the Valero next to Pro Star Waste) failing to yield to Wguyen. Wguyen cut right in an effort to avoid the bicyclist (Chuck Wayne Jones, 55, of Livingston). Wguyen's vehicle still struck Jones knocking him off his bike. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Goodrich and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Trooper Sean Barnes with The Texas Highway Patrol). Barnes got some assistance from Trooper Maldonaldo out of San Jacinto County. Jones was transported by ambulance to Kingwood Hospital. Jones was speaking with EMS personnel. One lane to traffic on the north-bound side of 59 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Jones is likely facing a citation for causing the accident. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
