I often saw kids and young boys in the neighborhood who didn’t seem to belong there—not because they weren’t from the community, but because their personalities and mannerisms didn’t fit the mold of what was expected in an urban environment. You can often tell when someone is faking it, trying to blend in with a neighborhood culture that isn’t truly theirs.

Just because you come from an urban community doesn’t mean you have to conform to everything associated with it. You don’t have to commit crimes, rob, or join gangs to prove your identity or fit in. There’s no need to adopt a lifestyle that doesn’t align with who you really are. It’s okay to just be yourself, even if that means standing apart from the expectations placed on you by your surroundings.
