Apatros Review Ep-0095: The Monster of Venice [1965] ("The Embalmer")

AR-0095: An old early-generation Italian Giallo from the mid-1960s, this rather weak attempt at making a thriller doubling as a tourism advertisement courtesy of the Venice Tourism Bureau [maybe not 100% accurate, but sure feels like it, more like 65% - 70% in practical terms] has one of Swinging Sixties Venice's top newspapermen go after a nasty hotel manager who likes to collect the local female bombshells and turn them into literal human Barbie dolls [complete with their own packaging!], preserving them almost perfectly using a secret embalming process and storing them in his "love castle" in a hidden long-abandoned monastery underneath the hotel he operates, to which only he knows the entry points...

Known in the United States as "The Embalmer" & with the protagonist played by an actor going by the name of "Gin Mart" [exactly the place you should be going to in order to stock up on your supplies for this one], this is rather silly and far from the quality of the 1970s' true Giallo masterpieces, but it is good for a laugh.

My Grade: D+ [Disappointing]
