Did she really say that? What say you? Cooking with Lisa Jo, your essential oil girl-No, Nope-Not

Hey everyone, Lisa Jo here, your essential oil girl! Hope you’re doing great. Today, I’ve got a quirky little story for you from my daily adventures here in Colorado.

So, this morning I attempted to go for a walk, but the Colorado sun quickly reminded me of its strength, and I had to cut it short—only about 20 minutes in. Little backstory, I’ve moved from Cocoa Beach, Florida, to Lone Tree, Colorado. I’m using these videos to connect with you all since I can’t chat directly about essential oils due to compliance reasons.

While cooling down at home, I overheard some lady on TV that had me chuckling and thinking deeply at the same time. It was a successful entrepreneur interviewed by Hoda and Jenna, and she made a peculiar comment about her mother not teaching her how to cook. She believed it was her mom’s way of ‘saving’ her. It got me reflecting on my own cooking skills—or the lack thereof!

My mom wasn’t the best cook either. Our family survived on shake and bake, and the dreaded salmon patties still haunt my taste buds. So, I wondered, was it really about ‘saving’ me, or was it just that cooking wasn’t her forte?

This lady’s view was that not learning to cook early on helped her prioritize being a woman over being a homemaker first. It’s an interesting angle, but I’m not fully convinced. What about you? What’s your cooking story? Did your mom teach you how to cook, or did she, perhaps unintentionally, ‘save’ you from the kitchen?

In our household, it’s the boyfriend who handles most of the culinary duties—simple stuff like hamburger patties and boiled eggs, nothing fancy, but it works for us. I must confess, I’m not a fan of lingering cooking smells, which is a challenge in our open concept apartment. Even with all the essential oils I diffuse, those cooking odors stick around!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Did your parents teach you to cook, or was it something you learned out of necessity?
