The First Recorded Peace Treaty
The first known peace treaty in history was signed in 1259 BC between the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses II and the Hittite King Hattusili III after the Battle of Kadesh. This treaty, known as the "Eternal Treaty" or "Silver Treaty," established a mutual alliance and outlined terms of peace, which included the return of prisoners and mutual defense pacts. Copies of this treaty are displayed in both the United Nations Headquarters and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
