However, beneath the surface, conditions remain relatively warm. The ice serves as an insulator, ensuring that the water at the lake's bottom never falls below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. With a thickness of at least two feet, the ice can support heavy loads, even a large snow plow, which the ice master uses to prepare the ice surface regularly.
