Derek Chauvin, the former police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd in 2020, has been transferred to a low-security prison in Texas after being stabbed 22 times by another inmate at a facility in Arizona nine months ago.

Chauvin, who is serving a combined 43.5-year sentence for murder and civil rights violations, was attacked by John Turscak, a former gang leader, who targeted him the day after Thanksgiving, citing symbolic reasons related to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Meanwhile, Thomas Lane, another former Minneapolis officer involved in Floyd’s death, has been released from federal prison after serving a three-year sentence for aiding and abetting manslaughter, The Guardian has reported.
