Russian attack helicopters near the front lines. Video shows combat vehicles from the Ukraine Armed Forces deploying soldiers to the battlefront when suddenly the last rear vehicle in the column gets hit by a Russian Ka-52 missile. This has military significance because it demonstrates the vulnerability of ground vehicles to aerial attacks, it highlights the need for survivable short-range air defenses.

The Ka-52 russian attack helicopter is equipped with anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs). The helicopter has two main ATGM options: the 9M120-1 Ataka-1, which has a maximum range of 6 Km (3.7 miles) and the 9A4172K Vikhr-1, which can reach targets at 9 Km (6 miles). Both missiles use laser beam-riding guidance, although 9M120 missiles with radio-command guidance can also be used. The ability of the Ka-52 to engage moving ground targets with precision-guided weapons, including in night-time conditions, is a considerable advantage.
