Are you afraid to drive over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge after the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge?

In this video, you will have the chance to experience crossing one of the most beautiful bridges in the world, worry-free.
The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is one of the most beautiful bridges on the world and it is a pair of long beam bridges with a central tall cable-stayed bridge that spans Lower Tampa Bay to connect Pinellas County to Manatee County Florida .

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge, officially known as the Bob Graham Sunshine Skyway Bridge, is a cable-stayed bridge that spans Tampa Bay, Florida, connecting St. Petersburg and Terra Ceia.

Construction:
Original Bridge (1954): The first Sunshine Skyway Bridge was a cantilever bridge, completed in 1954. It was a crucial part of U.S. Route 19, reducing travel time across Tampa Bay.
Expansion and Tragedy (1971-1980): Due to increased traffic demands, a second parallel span was added in 1971. The two spans allowed for four lanes of traffic, with each span carrying two lanes.

Collapse (1980):

On May 9, 1980, the freighter MV Summit Venture collided with a support pier of the southbound span during a severe storm, causing a significant portion of the bridge to collapse into the bay. The accident resulted in the deaths of 35 people, as several vehicles, including a Greyhound bus, plunged into the water below.

New Bridge (1987):

After the collapse, the original spans were deemed unsafe, and the southbound span was demolished. Construction of a new, more robust bridge began shortly after the incident. The new Sunshine Skyway Bridge was completed in 1987 and features a cable-stayed design, which is more resistant to ship collisions and offers a higher clearance for maritime traffic. The bridge is considered an architectural and engineering marvel, with its bright yellow cables and sleek design.

Current Status:

Today, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge is not only a vital transportation link but also a scenic route popular with drivers for its stunning views of Tampa Bay. The bridge is frequently featured in photography and has become an iconic symbol of the region. However, the memory of the tragic collapse still lingers, with a memorial in place to honor the victims.

The bridge remains a testament to modern engineering and is carefully monitored to prevent any future incidents.
