Glock 21 in .45 ACP - The 1911 Killer
I really wanted to rent a glock 21 in 45ACP to see how I liked it. Honestly, I loved it. My local range had a Glock 21 with a SilencerCo Osprey. Now I realize this is apples and oranges because the rental had a can on it. But I tried to narrow down my thoughts about the Glock 21 based on how well I was able to run the pistol.
The Glock 21 feels like a full size glock, almost the exact same dimensions as a 17. albeit, being a little bit wider then say a Glock 17. Therefore the two aren't compatible as far as holsters go. It's a chunky gun but it didn't feel that different than any of the glocks that I'm used to shooting. Being a gen 3, this particular model was a lot like any other gen 3 glock in terms of feel. The trigger was about the same as other gen 3s, the controls were right handed only, and it didn't have adjustable backstraps unlike newer glock models. But none of those features matter that much to me being a right handed shooter who is already very comfortable on glock.
Despite being 45ACP the gun doesn't recoil all that much. That is obviously reduced a bit considering that the gun is supressed, but recoil was quite manageable. The gun was equipped with supressor height sights, so at first this had me shooting a bit low. I was hitting the bottom of the sticker with a combat hold on the center dot of an 8" sticker. So with the high sights I was hitting about 4 inches low. However, after correcting the offset, I was dead on.
The glock 21 will hold 13 rounds of 45ACP, which is pretty descent for a 45 caliber pistol.
I don't have much to say about this gun other than that its a glock, its as reliable as you'd expect it to be, and its a real shooter. If ever I wanted to get into 45ACP, this is hte gun I'd be buying. Shooting it suppressed is a real joy, even indoors. 45 ACP having a 230 grain round travels 830 feet per second, so it is naturally subsonic, meaning that its a great round for shooting suppressed.
Next week, I'm going to do a more in depth review on the can itself, the SilencerCo Osprey, so stay tuned for that.
That said, if you're already a fan of glock and you want to get into 45ACP, the Glock 21 is definitely a contender you should be looking at. The glock 21 gets two thumbs up from us. Will catch you next week.
