A huge landslide has collapsed a dam at the Teesta hydroelectric power plant in Sikkim, India. It is the second such dam collapse at the plant in the space of a year. The landslide, one of many this year in India caused by unusually heavy rainfall, destroyed Teesta’s Stage 5 dam, and damaged the power plant's hoist structure at the tail race tunnel outlet (part of the water outflow system) and the GIS building (a substation). Fortunately, no casualties were reported, as the power station had been evacuated in anticipation of frequent landslides.
