Top Cowboys Performers You’ll Love from Rams Game & 1 Kings 3:1-15
After watching the game four times, I was impressed by these six players.
Hi, I’m Dallas, and this is Perry. I create Dallas Cowboys content that I would want to watch. I’m a new dad, so if you hear some crying in the background, don’t worry, it’s not a resident Eagles fan. Let’s dive into the film.
Demarvion Overshown looks like a complete hit by the Cowboys draft room. He was everywhere on the field. NFL starters should stand out in preseason games because the surrounding talent isn’t at their level, and Overshown did just that. I was impressed with how he fought through traffic to stop an outside run and how he played through a block on this screen to end the play.
Kelvin Harmon caught my eye with these two grabs. The first was a tough catch where he held onto the ball despite a nasty fall, and then he got up and ran like he hadn’t been tackled. The next grab was even better because of the YAC. Is it just me, or are receivers getting bigger? Also, his block here was solid, even though it was called back due to a hold by another WR.
Harmon and Overshown shined on the first watch, but on closer inspection, I also noticed...
Tyler Guyton played well at LT. He handled pass protection with ease and got good push on run plays. The Cowboys draft room usually nails it with first-round Offensive Linemen, and Guyton looks like a solid contributor this year.
We started Brock Hoffman at Center instead of draft pick Cooper Beebe (more on him later), and I was impressed. He’s been in the league a few years but hasn’t been a serious contributor until now. He did a great job getting push on run plays and stonewalling the Rams’ DTs. Hoffman might be our starting center, which could be obvious in Cowboys land, but I’ve been in Dad land, so I haven’t heard much about him. I avoided Cowboys media after the game to keep this video purely based on what I saw.
I was also impressed with Defensive Tackle Carl Davis. He might not get much love as a career journeyman, but considering our recent issues at DT, I think he’s worth keeping around. He’s 6’5” and 335 pounds, a mountain of a man. He did an excellent job controlling the offensive lineman and ripping around him to make this tackle. If you watch the film and focus on number 98, you’ll find a lot to like.
Cooper Beebe looked great at left guard in the 4th quarter. He played some snaps at center (his college position and why we drafted him), but his best plays were at guard. He did an excellent job halting the pass rush and washing his man down the line in the run game. Later in the game, he effectively sealed off his defender.
Those are the six players I liked in the first preseason game. Now, you might have seen a mention of 1 Kings 3:1-15 in the thumbnail or title and wondered how it’s related. I read it this morning and wanted to share some thoughts.
If you’re not familiar with Solomon from the Bible, he was the chosen successor to King David, who was considered a great King despite his flaws. In 1 Kings 3:3, we see Solomon following in his father’s footsteps in loving God.
God comes to Solomon and says, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” Solomon sees his massive kingdom and realizes he’s inadequate to rule, so he asks for wisdom. God loves this response and gives him even more.
I want to have a heart like Solomon’s in that moment. Two things enabled him to respond that way: 1) he genuinely loved God, as seen in verse 3, and 2) Solomon was humble. My application is that God gave me a family to lead, and I know that unless the Lord builds this house, I labor in vain. So, I want to ask the Lord for wisdom in leading His children well—my wife and baby.
You’re an uncommon person. According to metrics, only about 33% of viewers make it this far if this video performs like others. I, and maybe you, if you choose to be a part of it, have a goal to double my subscribers this season. I started with 598, which could drop since I added scripture to the video for the first time, but I’m okay with that. If you like this content and are still watching, please consider subscribing. That’s all I got. Remember, Jesus is King.
