WHO Declares MPox a Global Emergency for the Second Time in Three Years

Kiffer Card, Assistant Professor of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada, is a social epidemiologist. He makes some wild claims about MPox in this news piece, without qualifying what he means. The case fatality rate of MPox is nowhere near as high as he claims. Deaths in Africa from diseases such as this have far more to do with nutritional status, underlying health and stress. As a social epidemiologist, he would surely understand this. He then goes on to claim the relative risk reduction from the vaccine without recommending any other health interventions such as nutrition and micronutrients which are far more likely to save lives than new and potentially dangerous, but highly profitable, pharmaceutical products.

People like Kiffer Card need to be held accountable for the wild claims that they make, following the business model of their funders over basic principles of public health.
