Europe from Above Limski Kanal – Croatia
Limski Kanal, often referred to as the "Lim Fjord" or "Lim Bay," is one of the most picturesque natural phenomena in Croatia, located on the western coast of Istria, near the town of Rovinj.
It stretches from the Adriatic Sea inland, creating a deep, narrow inlet that resembles a fjord, although it's technically not a fjord but a ria (a drowned river valley). Is Approximately 10 kilometers long . Width varies but it's quite narrow, especially at its entrance where it's about 100 meters wide.
Historical Significance: The area has been inhabited since ancient times, with evidence of Roman settlements. The name "Lim" might derive from the Latin "limen," meaning threshold, due to its position as an entrance to Istria.
Today, it's a tourist attraction where visitors can enjoy boat tours, seafood dining experiences, and explore the natural beauty. They also filmed parts of famous Winnetou movies there. The channel's unique shape and the surrounding cliffs make it a stunning spot for photography.
