In the days that Jesus, incarnate walked the earth, the temple affairs were handled by the Levitical priests. Jesus foretold of the day when not one stone would remain on top of another on the temple mount. The temple has never been rebuilt.

Without a temple what is a High Priest to do? Their service revolved around the temple. The author of Hebrews explains that we have no need for a High Priest so we don't need a temple; Jesus is our eternal High Priest!
