Lost Jews Debate Zionist Jew

Jewish self-determination meets Jewish self-destruction.

At the 2019 AIPAC Policy Conference we set out to speak with some of the most fundamental and violent individuals against Israel. Among the crowd were Neturei Karta & the Satmar Jews.

These "Lost Jews" make up less than .1% of the total Jewish People, which Jews as a whole make up around .02% of the world's population. The conclusions and ideas of Neturei Karta and the Satmar Jews stem from deep emotional, psychological and generational traumas from living 2,000 years in the diaspora with tremendous pain and suffering. This has caused them to reject any form of Jewish empowerment, and to ultimately believe that Jews must remain oppressed and live in persecution, "since that is G-d's will".

A "debate" is a competitive match of ideas that is utilized to clarify or strengthen one or more positions. In order to successfully come to a debate, one must understand the rules of engagement and the context and basis for which the ideas are being articulated.

Neturei Karta and Satmar are religious-orthodox fundamentalists who use the Torah (Judean Bible) to justify their claims and positions in standing against Israel and attempting to counter any form of Jewish empowerment or self-determination.

As an individual free-thinking Jew who is independent and subscribes only to the collective of the Nation of Israel, I avoid using the Torah (Judean Bible) to justify any claim for Israel's legitimacy. The vast majority of the world does not believe in the Torah (Judean Bible), or at least in the Jewish version/interpretation of it, so why would I use scriptures to narrate or explain my people’s positions? There are plenty of valid claims for Israel‘s right to exist on its own that are based on accepted world facts and history, that sourcing scriptures for justification in a secular non-Jewish world is completely counterproductive.

That being said, when talking with individuals who base their positions on scriptures, it is often necessary to know and even use such scriptures in order to get such individuals to understand how their logic is wrong and to disprove their claims.

It is import to remember that these Jews have a “shtetl mindset”, which is remanent of the way many of Jews displaced in Europe for 2,000 years saw the world pre-1948.

Jews were not only physically broken in their diaspora, but had also been mentally broken and acquired a sort of Stockholm syndrome, where they mostly believed there was no way for them to fight back and to take their future into their own hands, thus concluding that it had to be from G-d that they were suffering and they must remain in pain until G-d liberates them.

Thankfully, most of the Judean Population has since evolved out of mental diaspora through the movement of Zionism, that sparked Jewish liberation, both physically and mentally.
