Ukraine strikes strategic bridge

Footage released on Friday (August 16) shows a Ukrainian strike on a bridge over the Seym River in Russia's Kursk region.

Reuters was able to confirm the location from the bridge design, lamp posts, handrail, trees, and terrain seen in the video which matched file and satellite imagery of the area.

The date could not be independently verified, but satellite imagery from August 16, taken before the video was released, showed the bridge intact. Satellite imagery from August 17 showed it damaged.

Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman and regional governor confirmed the destruction of a bridge in the area.

Kyiv has claimed to have taken control of 82 settlements over an area of 1,150 square kilometers (440 square miles) in the region since Aug. 6.
