Wherever Kamala Harris’ presidential candidacy goes, hers is already a professional and political journey shattering ceilings and blazing trails. Her ascendancy marks the growing political clout of Indian-Americans in the country, and potential divides. It is a group that recently surpassed Chinese Americans to become the largest Asian group in the US among people who identify with one country of origin, and are the wealthiest and most highly educated origin group among Asian-Americans on average. A tight race means that the Indian-American vote matters. The Pew Research Center says that 68% of Indian-Americans identify as Democrats and 29% as Republicans – but does that mean they’re all in on Kamala Harris?
