Interview with the Venetian Noble family Chiara Modica Dona' Dalle Rose e Francesco Dona Dalle Rose
oday, I had the pleasure of sitting down with two remarkable figures from Venetian nobility: Chiara Modica Donà dalle Rose and Francesco Donà dalle Rose, both deeply involved in the cultural preservation and innovation within Venice. Our conversation took place in a beautifully restored Venetian palazzo, echoing centuries of history and heritage, perfectly complementing the elegance of our discussion.
Chiara Modica Donà dalle Rose immediately impressed me with her deep passion for Venice as not just a city but a living, breathing cultural organism. She discussed how Fondazione Dalle Rose plays a crucial role in preserving Venice’s artistic legacy while supporting new generations of artists. As she emphasized, it’s about creating a bridge between the past and the future—keeping Venice relevant in today’s global artistic and cultural scene.
Chiara's words carried a sense of urgency and responsibility:
"We must support and nurture emerging talent while ensuring that Venice’s historical and cultural identity remains intact. The foundation is working tirelessly to foster this balance."
What stood out to me was Chiara's conviction that Venice is not just a city frozen in time, but one that can be the center of contemporary artistic dialogue. Her work through the foundation is ensuring that Venice continues to inspire and thrive.
Turning to Francesco Donà dalle Rose, our conversation shifted to the historical responsibilities of Venetian nobility. Francesco shared an insightful perspective on how his family, one of the oldest and most distinguished in Venice, has long been intertwined with the city’s governance and cultural stewardship.
As he spoke, I could sense his deep pride in the heritage he represents:
"Venice’s identity is rooted in centuries of history, and it’s our duty to protect that. But it’s also our responsibility to engage with the future by supporting initiatives that foster creativity and innovation."
Francesco also highlighted the importance of connecting Venice’s legacy with the world, ensuring that global cultures understand and appreciate the significance of this unique city. His international outlook is clearly reflected in the foundation's efforts to collaborate with cultural institutions worldwide.
During the interview, I was taken through some of the Fondazione Dalle Rose’s most recent projects, from art exhibitions that blend old and new styles, to social programs that aim to involve younger generations in preserving Venice’s cultural fabric. Their work is not only about safeguarding heritage but about ensuring Venice’s future remains as glorious as its past.
Closing thoughts:
I left the interview inspired by the Donà dalle Rose family’s unwavering dedication to Venice. Chiara and Francesco embody a modern nobility—one that is as much about cultural stewardship as it is about adapting to the needs of the future. Through their work with the foundation, they are proving that Venice is more than a historical city: it is an ever-evolving epicenter of art and culture.
