Obersturmbannführer Harald Riipalu (1912–1961)

Obersturmbannführer Harald Riipalu (1912–1961), commander in 20th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Estonian). He was decorated on August 23, 1944 with the Knight's Cross. Estonian soldiers were among the proudest and most effective of the Waffen-SS volunteers. Some of their heroic battles in the end days are like something from a tragic fairytale, the stuff of legend. Over 30,000 Estonian men volunteered into the Estonian Legion.
