Thousan Layer Cloth Shoes

Some ancient shoes were indeed constructed with multiple layers of materials. For instance:  

Leather shoes might have layers of leather for the upper, sole, and possibly reinforcement.
Some cultures used layers of plant fibers or bark for basic footwear.
