Where Truth Can Be Found; Luke 16:27-31

Delivered during the Sunday Morning Worship Service, 8/11/2024. Jesus concludes His parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man with one of the most important principles for the church in any age-- but particularly in the confusing array of false and half-truths that plague Evangelicalism today. And that is the principle of where TRUTH can be definitively found. When Abraham tells the rich man that his torment in Hell is final and irreversible, "Dives" begs him to send Lazarus to warn his five brothers. Abraham's response is simple yet profound and deeply signifiant to the church-- truth can be found in God's revealed Word. But like so many today, Dives contradicts Abraham and claims that sensational, experiential revelation is what they need in order to believe. But Abraham shares the sad reality-- if truth cannot be found in the revealed Word of God, it will not be found at all! What was true for the rich man and his brothers is true for the church today-- we need to repent and turn to the place truth can actually be found-- the Word of God as revealed in His Holy Scriptures.
