"The Monkey's Paw" is a classic horror short story by W.W. Jacobs, first published in Harper's Monthly in 1902 and reprinted in his third collection of short stories, The Lady of the Barge in 1911. The story revolves around a mummified monkey's paw that grants three wishes but comes with hellish consequences as punishment for interfering with fate.1 Morris throws the paw into the fire after having a horrible experience using it.
