Off grid solar generation in November is rubbish! - OFF GRID IN ITALY

2 months off grid and we are still alive and kicking. Albeit a little bit bruised from the experience but by no means battered. The 2 kw solar panel upgrade on the back of the garage has certainly delivered a huge improvement as far as being able to get the batteries up to a full charge during a sunny winter day. However when it is a dark overcast we struggle to maintain the standard current draw for the houses never mind getting any charge into the batteries. In order to get through winter off grid with only solar power I would have to cover every surface of both houses to get enough charge during a dark overcast. Then what do I do with all the extra power during summer?

We can only get through winter by using a generator when required. Turns out it will be required quite a lot in the coming months if November's weather is anything to go by. 🙄

System components:
2 x 4 Kw MPP solar inverter chargers in parallel
1 x 2 Kw MPP charge controller
2 x 4 kw solar panel strings
1 x 2 Kw solar panel string
25 KWh Lead/Acid battery bank
