Curtis Martin: VP Ranches, Co-Owner/Partner, Cattle Rancher
Curtis Martin is a seasoned cattle rancher and a lifelong resident of Eastern Oregon, deeply rooted in the agricultural traditions of the region. Born in Ontario and raised in the small community of Vale, Curtis was immersed in the world of cattle production from an early age. His upbringing on a family-run farm instilled in him a strong work ethic, problem-solving skills, and a deep connection to the land. Curtis knew from a young age that agriculture would be his lifelong vocation, a commitment that has only deepened over the years.

In 1978, Curtis married Cheryl Dodson and together they moved to the Baker Valley, where they continued the family tradition of ranching. With deep roots in the North Powder area dating back to the 1870s, the couple established their own property in 1983 and raised four sons, all of whom were integrated into the ranching lifestyle. Today, Curtis oversees agricultural properties across Union, Baker, and Malheur counties and is actively involved in operational management while mentoring the next generation, including his grandchildren, to carry on the family legacy.

Beyond his work on the ranch, Curtis has made significant contributions to public service, particularly in water resource management. His involvement began in the early 1990s with the implementation of the Agriculture Water Quality Program administered by the Oregon Department of Agriculture. His leadership roles include serving on the Union County Soil and Water District board and co-chairing the Powder/Brownelee Local Advisory Committee, where he helped shape the AgWQM Area Plan.

Curtis's public service extended to an application for the eastern region position on the Oregon Water Resources Commission, where he has advocated for proactive, outcome-based policies that balance agricultural needs with environmental concerns. His experience has taught him the importance of collaboration and understanding diverse perspectives, a philosophy he brings to both his ranching operations and his public work.

Curtis Martin's life and career are a testament to the values of hard work, resilience, and community, making him a respected leader in both the agricultural and public sectors of Eastern Oregon.
