With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Greg Kihn, a legendary figure in rock music, who lost his battle with Alzheimer’s disease on August 13, 2024, at the age of 75. Greg was celebrated for his electrifying stage presence and storytelling prowess that captivated audiences worldwide. He wasn’t just a musician but a cultural icon whose influence will echo through the generations.

Born on July 10, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland, Greg discovered his passion for music early on. His career took off with the release of Greg Kihn, earning critical acclaim and a devoted fan base. Blending folk, classic rock, blues, and pop, his unique sound helped shape the San Francisco Bay Area's musical legacy. Greg rose to global fame in the 1980s, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry.

Throughout his remarkable career, Greg received numerous accolades and awards, honoring his artistic contributions and unwavering dedication to his craft. As a trailblazer with Beserkley Records, he played a pivotal role in shaping West Coast Rock and Roll. His hit songs, including "Jeopardy," "The Breakup Song," "Remember," and "Lucky," resonated with fans worldwide. Beyond his musical genius, Greg was a beloved radio host on KFOX for 17 years, where he connected with audiences through real-world issues and tales from his rock star adventures.

In addition to his music and radio career, Greg was an accomplished storyteller and novelist, with six published novels and numerous short stories. He also had a unique passion for breeding rare praying mantises and was actively involved in raising funds for Operation Care and Comfort, reflecting his kindness and generosity. Friends and family remember him not just as a rock star but as a warm-hearted individual who brought joy and inspiration to all who knew him.

Greg is survived by his wife, Jay Arafiles-Kihn, son Ryan Kihn, daughter Alexis Harrington-Kihn, son-in-law Samora Harrington, grandsons Nate and Zuri Harrington-Kihn, sister Laura Otremba, brother-in-law Lou Otremba Jr., and nephews Larry, Lou III, and Matthew Otremba. They will forever cherish the memories and moments shared with him. A private memorial celebration will be held with friends and family, with a public celebration of life concert for fans and fellow musicians to be announced in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Greg Kihn’s name to The Alzheimer’s Association to help end Alzheimer’s disease.
