Join Kelly and me as we embark on a delightful two-night camping adventure within the enchanting embrace of O'Leno State Park. This historic gem, one of Florida's pioneering nine state parks, owes its creation to the hardworking hands of the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s. Nestled alongside the picturesque Santa Fe River, a tributary of the renowned Suwannee River, O'Leno State Park boasts a diverse natural landscape, including captivating sinkholes, lush hardwood hammocks, tranquil river swamps, and rolling sandhills. The Santa Fe River, which gracefully meanders through the park, mysteriously vanishes underground, only to resurface more than three miles away in the stunning River Rise Preserve State Park.

It has been over 20 years since Kelly and I had been tent camping. Our two nights in this pristine wilderness were filled with memorable experiences. We relished the opportunity to explore the captivating River Trail, immersing ourselves in the park's natural wonders. And, of course, our adventure wouldn't have been complete without savoring the delicious meals I cooked over the open campfire. The aroma of grilled hamburgers and sausage and the crackling campfire provided the perfect backdrop for our evening feasts, making our time at O'Leno State Park truly unforgettable.
