he was the youngest member to be appointed this body,
which advises government policy.

He served as Professor of Evidence Based Medicine at the
Bahiana School of Medicine in Salvador, Brazil.
He was a founding member of action on sugar and a first science director
and through that role he is considered the lead campaigner on
bringing about a sugary drinks tax in the UK.
