Timmeka Eggleton, 31, has pled guilty to charges of murder, felonious assault, and endangering children. A more serious aggravated murder charge was dropped as part of her plea deal. The case began on June 14, 2023, when 3-year-old Curtis Lee James Witcher was found unconscious in a stroller at a Family Dollar and later died at University Hospital Cleveland Medical Center. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide from blunt force trauma. Eggleton was arrested days later after allegedly lying about the incident.Three months before Curtis's death, a judge removed him from his foster parents, who had cared for him for over two years. The foster parents, who had known Curtis since he was one week old, described him as central to their family. They reported that social worker visits to the biological mother’s home were restricted: visits had to occur outside, and the mother was verbally abusive and refused unsupervised or unannounced visits. The foster mother expressed that Curtis was part of a loving family and should still be safe in their care. In August, Eggleton was deemed mentally unfit for trial and sent for treatment, but it was later determined she could potentially be fit for trial within a year. On November 30th, she was found competent to face charges.
