01:25 Eye Surgery

"Hello, I have had surgery on my right eye, twice, to reattach my retina. My right eye is my dominant eye. It was suggested that I might try red dot scopes or low power scopes. I know nothing of red dot scopes. Being a deer hunter for 40 years, I'm not about to give up, just need answers and a lot of help."

04:16 Trajectory

"Does anyone know what the midrange trajectory of the 500 grain 45/70 bullet would be at 2 miles?"

That's a tough one to run ballistics for, especially considering that the round really limits out around 2 miles. RT Hare tested rounds like this at Sandy Hook in 1879, with mixed results. When stretched out to two miles - around 3500 yards - there were very few impacts. Hare was shooting with iron sights, on sticks. It also didn't help that the 500 grain bullet had been flying 21 seconds and was coming down at a 70 degree angle, though it still penetrated 5.25" into a wood-paneled target. To make the shot, the rifle was tilted up at 20 degrees and 51 minutes, or 1251 MOA. As for the midrange trajectory... It's safe to say the bullet was 'very very high up' and going ‘pretty darn slow’.

"I have a Pedersoli 45/70 with a 34 inch barrel. I would like to put a long scope on it but it doesn’t have a rear dovetail nor is it drilled and tapped. I would like some information on mounts and advice."
