Shedding Velvet

During the growth process, bull elk antlers are coated with a soft, fuzzy substance called velvet. It is like a scab. When their horns have reached their full potential and stopped their growth, the bull will use trees and sage brush to assist him in shedding his velvet. There is a short window of opportunity to get this footage as the elk transition from their fat and lazy attitudes of Summer to the wild and crazy rut in fall. Enjoy as this bull sheds his velvet!
