Exodus 17:1-7, Why Do You Tempt the Lord?

Having just received God’s miraculous provision of manna in Exodus 16, the Israelites set out on their wilderness journey. Finding no water at their camp, they quickly complain to Moses (Exodus 17:1) instead of asking God for help. Moses admonishes the people that their complaints are against God, not himself, replying, "Why do you tempt the Lord" (Exodus 17:2)? Pastor Kevin draws on the life of King Asa and other accounts in Scripture that show how God faithfully answers those who call upon Him in faith in contrast to those who rely upon man instead of God. In providing water from the rock at Meribah, God met the needs of the ancient Israelites in the desert and pointed to our true Rock and Living Water, the Lord Jesus. Pastor Kevin exhorts us to trust Jesus even more as our days grow darker and more uncertain.
