Rose-Water Rice Pudding is a delightful and aromatic dessert that combines the creamy texture of traditional rice pudding with the subtle floral essence of rose water. Here’s a recipe for you to try:
Rose-Water Rice Pudding Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup basmati or jasmine rice
4 cups whole milk (or a milk alternative like almond or coconut milk)
1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
1/2 tsp ground cardamom (optional)
2 tbsp rose water
1/4 cup chopped pistachios or almonds (optional, for garnish)
2 tbsp dried rose petals (optional, for garnish)
A pinch of saffron threads (optional, for a richer flavor and color)
1/4 tsp salt
Instructions:
Rinse the Rice:
Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the pudding from becoming too sticky.
Cook the Rice:
In a large saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the rice and salt, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.
Add Milk and Sweeteners:
Once the rice is cooked, add the milk, sugar, and cardamom (if using). Stir well and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
Simmer the Pudding:
Reduce the heat to low and let the pudding simmer for about 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
Incorporate Rose Water:
Stir in the rose water and saffron (if using). Cook for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
Serve:
Remove the pudding from the heat. Serve warm or chilled, depending on your preference.
Garnish:
Garnish with chopped pistachios or almonds and a sprinkle of dried rose petals before serving for an extra touch of elegance.
Tips:
Adjust the sweetness and rose water to your liking.
You can serve it with a dollop of whipped cream or a drizzle of honey for extra richness.
