On That Day - Original Worship Song (Lyric Video) by Martin Barret

The song, “On That Day” was the combination of efforts between my wonderful wife Nancy Douglas, and me. Nancy wrote the lyrics, as well as a bit of the verse melody, and from there I was able to develop the tune into a full arrangement within about a day or two.

The song was awarded as a 'Finalist' in the 2009 John Lennon Song Contest, back in 2009.

From there, Len Dehek, former radio host of the syndicated cross-Canada 'Power Praise' played it which was fantastic! (And apparently, it's still getting airplay!)

The song ‘On That Day’ has special meaning for me on some of my very difficult and dark days where my migraines (an excruciatingly chronic and frequent) become so unbearable I want a meteorite to shoot out of the sky and land on my head. It’s in these horrible moments I have to remember that ‘this life is not the end’ and that, as Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you”. Though I deeply love my wife and enjoy a good portion of my life here, I know that I have a much better home in heaven and one day all of this life’s pain will be gone – not only my own, but the pain of so many others that my wife and I have visited with in the hospital and senior’s homes we minister at. Nancy wrote the song especially with them in mind: those in cancer wards, those forgotten by society, the old and disabled ones hidden away from the world in small rooms and who need to hear the ‘Good News’ in a whole new and fresh way.

How this song came about initially, was when Nancy and I had just heard a superb sermon by New Jersey Pastor Joe LoSardo via sermonaudio.com. The sermon entitled ‘To the Praise of His Glory’ became the inspirational rocket-fuel for my wife’s creative mind. I sat on the porch with my guitar on one of the few nice summer days we could actually enjoy and started playing a little riff in E-major with a (4th fret) half-capo setup. Nancy who was beside me suddenly started singing along with the riff those 3 wonderful opening words, “On that day”. The rest, as they say, is history!

The song also placed in two other contests, namely the Great American Song Contest where it was a finalist.
