Tangerine Chocolate Semifreddo
Tangerine Chocolate Semifreddo is a delicious Italian frozen dessert that combines the bright, citrusy flavor of tangerines with the rich taste of chocolate. Here's how you can make it:
Ingredients:
For the Semifreddo:
3 large eggs, separated
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup freshly squeezed tangerine juice (about 3-4 tangerines)
Zest of 2 tangerines
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 oz dark chocolate, melted and cooled slightly
For the Chocolate Sauce:
3 oz dark chocolate, chopped
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon tangerine zest
Instructions:
Prepare the Semifreddo:
Whip the Cream:
In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Set aside.
Beat the Egg Yolks:
In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks with half of the sugar until pale and creamy.
Stir in the tangerine juice, tangerine zest, and vanilla extract.
Combine Egg Yolks and Cream:
Gently fold the whipped cream into the egg yolk mixture until well combined.
Beat the Egg Whites:
In a separate, clean bowl, beat the egg whites with the remaining sugar until stiff peaks form.
Combine and Add Chocolate:
Carefully fold the egg whites into the tangerine mixture.
Divide the mixture into two parts. Stir the melted chocolate into one half.
Layer the Semifreddo:
In a loaf pan lined with plastic wrap, pour in the chocolate mixture, spreading it evenly.
Top with the tangerine mixture, spreading it out evenly as well.
Cover with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 6 hours or overnight.
Prepare the Chocolate Sauce:
Melt the Chocolate:
In a small saucepan, melt the dark chocolate with the heavy cream over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
Stir in the butter until melted and fully incorporated.
Add the tangerine zest and mix well.
Serve:
Slice and Serve:
Remove the semifreddo from the freezer, unwrap it, and slice it into thick pieces.
Drizzle each slice with warm chocolate sauce before serving.
