Manuel Salvador Zapata lives in Dabeiba, Colombia. His family was tragically buried in a landslide in a highway project area overseen by a Chinese state company. Since its inception, landslides in the area have more than doubled.

A DW Exclusive exposes the dark side of China's development projects through firsthand accounts and whistleblowers lifting the lid on the true costs of Beijing's expansion.

The project is putting the lives of almost 3,000 people at risk and has already erased ancient sites, causing irreparable damage as officials got cozy with the Chinese state company.

We speak with Manuel, local officials, and experts to understand who is accountable for these tragedies and what role the Colombian government plays in these developments.
