Americans of today may not recognize the cry to "Remember Paoli", but the Americans of the 1770s would recall it well. For on one September night on the outskirts of Philadelphia, a division of the Continental Army were scattered by the British column of General Charles Grey. While numerically inferior, Grey's bold strategy to storm the American camp with only bayonets led to the attack being dubbed the Paoli Massacre.
