Join us on an unforgettable gravel biking journey in Estes Park, Colorado, as we tackle the renowned Old Falls River Road. This Labor Day weekend trip in 2023 was full of surprises, starting with Kim's spontaneous plan to explore the rocky trails of the Rocky Mountain National Park.

Our adventure began at the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, leading us onto the challenging climbs and breathtaking views of Highway 36. As we navigated through the park, encountering wildlife and awe-inspiring landscapes, the real test awaited us on the Old Falls River Road.

This 9.07-mile climb, with an average incline of 6.7% and an elevation gain of 3,189 feet, pushed our limits. Surrounded by cliffs, streams, and alpine meadows, the journey was as beautiful as it was tough. We encountered switchbacks with stunning viewpoints, battled against headwinds, and finally reached the Alpine Visitor Center.

After a rewarding chat with fellow adventurers at the top and a chilly descent back to Estes Park, we concluded our day with a well-deserved meal at Smokin’ Dave’s BBQ. This ride is a must-try for experienced cyclists looking for a thrill in the heart of the Rockies.
