Also gets into ketones and MCT "Medium-Chain Triglyceride" oil which is refine from coconut oil (or palm oil)
Coconut oil is >50% MCT but MCT oil is 100% MCT, which is digested quickly and it's good for your brain and metabolism.

I was trying to verify something I read that coconut oil is often (like vegetable oil) rancid either from jarring it or sitting on the shelf and somehow refershed so you can't tell. I couldn't find it, but I had coconut oil this summer that had recently expired say within the past 5 years and I could not only tell the difference, it made me itch badly where I put it on my skin.

My conclusion is that you probably tell when it's bad. The advice was to avoid virgin/unrefined coconut oil for that reason, but I've also read that refining the coconut does something to make it unhealthy, which I believe is generally true for refinement and pasteurization. So I buy virgin in small jars, refined in large, and use up the virgin oil first if I have both.
