The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says the disease was detected in a Standardbred filly in Van Buren County. Cases in the states are typically seen in late summer and early fall. While this is the first EEE case in Michigan this year, West Nile virus has been detected in 48 mosquito pools, 12 wild birds and one human.
