We're back from the CMP National Matches!
- Didn't have time for shooting, but did get to enjoy the many varieties of weather. Camp Perry is famous for its National Matches weather variability, and did not disappoint this year.

CMP added new class for Vintage Sniper; M40 and M1A are the usual rifles for the match.

The black and green versions of the M40 scope have different reticles, and we do not swap the reticles. However, Mike Sexton is the go-to guy for modifying scopes after the fact.

08:50 The 1869 Sharps

1869 Sharps question:
"I have inherited an 1869 Sharps, originally owned by my great-grandfather, I am 83. It probably never was fired aginst a human or a beast, and was used primarily for target competitions in the 1870's and 1880's, and maybe 1890's including one against Annie Oakley in a prelude to a Wild West Show. Family lore says it is a 40/90, an octagonal barrel, blued, set trigger. I do not see in my reseach any reference to a 40/90 being manufactured, but there were "custom" jobs so maybe it is."

'40-90 Sharps Straight' is a real cartridge, and original boxes of it are apparently selling for nearly $500. Relies on patents from the years 1866 to 1872. If it was using the 40-90 cartridge, it's possible this rifle was indeed modified to take the cartridge (rifle made till 1871, ammo has patents from 1872). The 1869 Sharps likely used the .44-77 or .50-70, so the barrel would need to be swapped. Only about 1000 of the rifles were produced.
