In Islam, performing ablution (wudu) is a ritual purification process involving specific steps before certain acts of worship, such as prayer. However, if one intends to take a bath (ghusl) for ritual purity due to major impurity (such as after marital relations, menstruation, post-childbirth, etc.), ablution is not a mandatory step before the bath. The bath itself serves as a form of purification.

If one decides to perform ablution before taking a bath for added spiritual cleanliness or personal preference, the steps are similar to the regular ablution process:

Intention (Niyyah): Have the intention of performing ablution before starting the process.
Start with washing the hands: Begin by washing your hands up to the wrists three times.
Rinse the mouth and nose: Take water in your mouth, swish it around, and then expel it. Cleanse your nostrils by sniffing water in and then blowing it out gently.
Wash the face: Thoroughly wash your face from the hairline to the chin and from ear to ear.
Wash the arms: Wash both arms up to the elbows, starting with the right arm and then the left, three times.
Wipe the head: Wet your hands and wipe over your head once.
Wash the feet: Finally, wash both feet up to the ankles, ensuring water reaches between the toes, three times, starting with the right foot.
After performing ablution, one can proceed to take a bath for ritual purity (ghusl) by washing the entire body in a specific manner, ensuring water reaches every part of the body.

It's essential to note that while performing these rituals, the intention and mindfulness of the purification's spiritual aspect are vital. Additionally, the specific rules and procedures for ablution and ritual bathing in Islam may vary based on different scholarly opinions or schools of thought within Islam, so it's advisable to consult with a knowledgeable religious authority for precise guidance.
